Effects of Implementing an Interactive Substance Use Disorders Workshop on a Family Medicine Clerkship

Background and Objectives: Substance use disorders (SUD) remain a public health crisis training has been insufficient to provide the skills necessary combat this crisis. We aimed create study an interactive, destigmatizing, skills-based workshop for medical students evaluate if changes students’ self-reported knowledge, skills, attitudes toward patients with SUD. Methods: surveyed on required family medicine outpatient rotation at Pacific Northwest school during clerkship orientation their views regarding SUDs utilizing validated Drug Problems Perceptions Questionnaire containing 7-point Likert scale. After attending substance disorder workshop, they repeated survey. calculated differences between paired pre- postsurveys. Results: collected postdata 118 who attended showed statistically significant positive all items. Conclusions: The change in reported suggests both necessity feasibility teaching SUD destigmatizing way training. Positive also suggest role of exposing and/or primary care as strategy learn competent disorders.
